ABOUT RYAN

Based in Nova Scotia, Ryan's practice is devoted primarily to criminal defence, representing individuals charged with serious offences at every stage of the criminal process, from bail hearings to trials, sentencing, and appeals.

Before entering private practice, Ryan served as Crown counsel in Toronto, Yellowknife, and Vancouver. That experience provides him with valuable insight into prosecutorial decision-making and trial strategy.

Ryan is also appointed as amicus curiae in complex criminal proceedings and has extensive experience representing Indigenous clients. He also acts for complainants in sexual assault proceedings.

In addition to his advocacy work, Ryan serves as an adjudicator on administrative tribunals and is Chair of the Criminal Appeals Committee for Nunavut Legal Aid, where he assesses convictions, sentences, and potential grounds of appeal.

Ryan is known for careful preparation, practical advocacy, and thoughtful legal analysis, with a particular interest in complex cases involving constitutional issues, forensic evidence, and appellate litigation.
